About Gift Aid
Since Bexley Winter Shelter gained charity status in July 2019, the generous financial gifts of our supporters have been able to go further. Under Gift Aid, we are able to claim back from HMRC 25p for every £1 donated to the charity. This is dependant on the donor having paid in tax during the year at least the amount we wish to claim. Higher and Additional Rate Tax-Payers are also permitted to claim back the difference between the Basic Rate and what they pay on the amount of the grossed up donation received by a registered charity.
Have you Skills and Time you could Offer to Our Guests?
Previously, our guests have been helped by professionals kindly giving their time and skills. If you are a dentist, chiropodist, optician or hairdresser willing to donate some of your time to our guests at the Shelter we would be pleased to hear from you. Other Items Needed by The Shelter
Perhaps you are able to gift items which most of us regard as everyday essentials?
Every day essentials include toiletries. Things like toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo and shower gel are helpful as we can provide at the Shelter to make the guests a little more comfortable.
Many of our guests have spent most of their days and nights out walking the streets. Consequently, they have problems with their feet and so, new socks are welcomed. Similarly, underwear and other unused items of warm clothing may make them more comfortable.
Please do not bring donations to any of our venues as most have no space to store them. We are hoping shortly to gain storage space for this purpose.

If You Find Someone Sleeping Rough
Some rough sleepers will be reluctant to attend a shelter. StreetLink exists to help end rough sleeping by enabling members of the public to connect people sleeping rough with the local services that can support them. You can alert Streetlink if you are concerned about someone over 18 sleeping rough by visiting their website (click on the Streetlink logo). If you think the person is under 18 you should instead call the police or if you believe someone is in immediate danger or in need of urgent care, please call 999.
